Promotion throughout the project

We use the term ‘promotion’ in this guide to cover a whole range of activities which raise the profile and increase the impact of a project. Promotion is not just for the end products or results, it should be applied to the project over the whole course of its development. So it is important to devise a promotion action plan right at the start of the project.

Why promote?

  • To tell end users about your project
  • To contribute to policy development (local, regional, national or European)
  • To inform and advocate to your sponsors and funding bodies
  • To support and enhance the image of your own organisation
  • To extend the impact of your project by extending it to multipliers
  • To tell commercial organisations you have a product to sell

Every language project will have good reasons for existing. It is well worth listing all the reasons you can think of so that the project can be promoted more effectively. In the process, you may also be able to identify new target groups who could benefit or have an interest. A brainstorming session with partners may be useful in this process. Once you have explored all the reasons, you can prioritise them and focus on those you consider to be key.
